Belize hosted its first National Sports Summit on 2–3 September 2026 under the theme “Building Belize Through Sport.” With sport positioned as a critical pillar of national development, the summit brought together athletes, coaches, government ministers, and regional experts to address governance, physical literacy, athlete welfare, facilities, coaching, financing, and sports tourism. This column examines why Belize’s approach offers a model worth emulating across the Caribbean.

St Vincent and the Grenadines has a new opportunity to rebuild communities through sport. This column revisits a lost chance for community sports councils, calls for a return to physical literacy, and urges the Community Development Department to take its rightful place in shaping Vincentian society. A holistic, people‑centred approach is long overdue.
