TASVG in 2019

The association held a different number of events based on the time of the season. During the off-season the association held its annual ROUND D TOWN ROAD RELAY for schools and clubs. Linda McDowall and Junior Ashton have proven themselves the best at road running in the country and also at the Caribbean level. Our biggest event at that time of the season is the world’s most challenging NACAC 10K which takes places on the mountainous terrain of the Leeward side of the island.

The early part of the year always commences with weekly Development Meets. Other competitions are CARIFTA trails, Juvenile Championships, Jumps Classic, Throws Classic, Relay Classic and a Hurdles Classic.

In 2019 circumstances dealt TASVG a huge favour. The Sion Hill Playing Field accommodated an 8-lane 400m track that served the purposes of the organisation very well for Trials and competitions during the track competitive season.

We also seen an improvement in performance and attendances at the Inter Schools’ athletics championships, both primary and secondary levels. 2019 saw continued improvement in participation and performances in both competitions.

Our top performers for the year:

Handal Roban with his bronze medal and the SVG flag

Handal Roban – won bronze medal at the Carifta Games in Cayman Island in the 800m. He also won a bronze medal in Mexico at the NACAC U 18 Athletics Championship in the 800m.

A number of athletes made the CARIFTA standard very early. This led to the largest team Vincentian team ever to attend the Carifta Games. We also saw the first ever athlete to represent the country in a multi- event competition at Carifta – the Octathlon.
