"Biggs" back in action.

Adonson "Biggs" Shallow

Injuries are always an effect of being involved in sports and can bring about a premature end to an athlete’s season, or career. This was the situation faced by Throws specialist Adonson “Biggs” Shallow.

Over the course of the past 5 years, he had been battling to recuperate from injuries sustained while at college. These injuries were so severe, they required surgery, which turned out to be an expensive option. Due to the high cost of the procedures, Shallow said he was “left with the option of sitting on the sidelines and painfully watch as some of my former competitors in college advanced past me.”

These injuries included damaged nerves in the sole of his left foot, a torn stabilizer muscle in his right calf, separated ribs, a broken tail bone, and being hospitalized with Type 2 Diabetes. However, due to exercise and a proper diet, he has since been able to control his diabetic condition.

While out of action, “Biggs” spent his time imparting his knowledge through coaching stints. He spent 2 years at Bellarmine University, where he produced 3 conference champions, and 2 qualifiers for the NCAA Division 2 Championships. He spent another 2 years at Spalding University, with similar results.

As for his own training, Shallow writes his programs along with the aid of videos, and has set a goal of getting back to where he left off, by year’s end.

“The key now is to make my technique a lot better with the knowledge I gained from coaching over the years and understanding each event more.”

At present, “Biggs” holds all the National Throwing records, set between 2010 and 2013.

Team Athletics SVG is excited to hear of the progress made by Shallow, and wishes him nothing but the best, as we look forward to seeing him compete once again for the 3 diamonds.
