Four qualify at Carifta Trials
Following two days Carifta trials at the 2026 Dr. Lennox Adams National Junior Championships, four athletes added their names to the list of qualifiers for the Carifta Games. On day one, on Saturday March 7th, Isiah Patterson of the St. Vincent Grammar School cleared the required 1.90m for the U20 Boys High Jump standard. Then, in one of the final races for the afternoon, Jada Davis of High Performance had the crowd at the Sir Vincent Beache Stadium roaring her on, as she ran 11:07.61s in the U17 Girls 3000m, bettering the 11.09.00s standard.
On Sunday, March 8th, following 2 days of multi-events, Kesian John of High Performance, know more for her middle distance prowess scored 3640 points, passing the 3343 points needed to qualify. What made her feat impressive, was that on the 2nd day, in the last of her 7 events, the 800m, she ran a personal best 2:22.25.
Jahiem Williams, also of High Performance, qualified in the multi-events, this time in the U20 Boys Decathlon, where he needed 4952 points to qualify, and finished the weekend with 4961.
They now join Ethan Kent and Evonte Nimblett, of the St. Vincent Grammar School in the U17 Boys High Jump, Trevel Sylvan of the Xceed Sports Club in the U20 Boys High Jump, and J’aivar Cato (Xceed Sports Club and Jamaica College) in the U20 Boys Long and Triple Jumps, as the St. Vincent & the Grenadines qualifiers so far.
Coming close to qualifying, but finishing just short was Tocarra Barbour of the Xceed Sports Club in the U20 Girls Discus. She threw a best of 35.00m, but needed 35.83m to qualify.
The window for qualification remains open however, leaving a chance for other athletes to make standards before the Easter Weekend Carifta Games in Grenada.
