Kimorie Shearman attains NASM Personal Trainer certification.
“First of all, all praises to God for this achievement. Without him it wouldn’t have been possible. This means a great deal to me. I couldn’t be more excited and grateful.”
These are the words expressed by sprinter, Kimorie Shearman, on receiving his certification as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NASM CPT).
The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) has been known for the quality of their physical trainers, due to scientific rigidity of their program.
Shearman, who is currently in his senior year at Long Island University, listed being a Personal Trainer as a career goal of his. His resolve was tested over the 10 month period of doing the course, as he was still a full time student-athlete, already having to balance regular class-work long with training. In his first attempt at the exam, the Glen resident missed being certified by 3 points, as he admits to not devoting enough time studying for the course.
“To be honest I didn’t study as effectively as I should have. It was a disappointing moment for me, but I didn’t stay in my despair for long. I went back to the book immediately and studied the contents over and over thoroughly, and as a result I was able to be successful.”
The cost of doing the course was also another hurdle Kimorie had to overcome, saying it wasn’t cheap, and he had to fund it himself which was especially difficult, since NCAA regulations prohibited him from working. But being a firm believer in God, he attributed his ability to come up with the funding as divine intervention.
Kimorie, who has represented SVG regionally and internationally, including the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018, can now offer professional personal training services to healthy and medically cleared persons anywhere in the world.
The St. Martin’s Secondary School alum has chosen to operate under the brand “Stay Up Fitness.”
