Handal Roban & Uroy Ryan break records and qualify for Carifta

Uroy Ryan

The JAAA Qualification Series continued in Jamaica today, where two Vincentian athletes had some record breaking performances.

Handal Roban, who broke the U20 Boys 800m record last week, continued in the same vein, when he competed in the 1500m earlier today. He finished second, in a time of 3:56.99, to erase the mark of 4:03.56 set by Desroy Jordan in 2016. It also earned him a second Carifta Games qualification, being faster than the 4:04.00 standard.

Also setting a new record today was Uroy Ryan, who is also at Jamaica College. He had been battling the wind for some time now, as he jumped further than the 7.10m record twice already for the season, but both jumps had a wind reading of over 2.0 meters per second. Today, there was no wind when he went 7.33m to win the event. His jump today also sees him joining Roban, Romar Stapleton and Xaria Bascombe, in making the Carifta Games standards.
