‘And a little child shall lead them.’ These words rang true on Saturday last at the Modified National Championships when little Garcia Leighterwood of High Performance of the Leeward side of St. Vincent completed an easy double, winning both the 100m and 200m U-13 on what turned out to be a bright day even though at the beginning the track was a bit soft due to overnight and early morning rain.

Kyle Lawrence of IT DAT Academy delivered two very good performances taking the 100m and 200m U-17 respectively. In the absence of Ulanda Lewis due to injury, Daniella Lewis of X-Ceed Sports Club also did the 100m/200m double in the same age group for girls. In the U-20 category, X-Ceed’s Zameisha Myle also complete the same double-winning performances.

Outstanding performances also came from Rolando Richards of IT DAT Academy who won the 100m and 300m U-13, clearly one to watch in the future.

Nellie Ambriton was injured towards the end of his 4 x 400m winning leg. This however came after he had completed his own double, winning the 400m and 800m U-17, in fine style.

McKish Compton, home from GC Foster in Jamaica, easily won the 100m seniors while Handal Roban, now at the Jamaica College, easily won the 400m U-20.

The Modified National Championships saw participants from High Performance, X-Cel, IT DAT Academy, Chatoyers, Troumaca Mustangs, Roses Academy and X-Ceed Sports Club.
