The Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Sustainable Development and Information Technology of the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines has commenced preliminary works for the construction of the Diamond Sporting Facility in the latter part of 2019. According to the government, the facility emerged out of its National Economic and Social Development Plan (2013-2025).
The construction of the facility is being undertaken in two (2) phases.
Phase #1 includes the placement of an athletic track, football field, the erection of the perimeter fence and construction of a bleacher (inclusive of restrooms, changing rooms and other ancillary offices).
Phase #2 will be the extension of the bleachers, other sporting facilities, media rooms, warm-up track and other facilities.
TASVG welcomes the government’s initiative since this has been a long-standing dream of track and field athletes, coaches and aficionados. We therefore closely monitor the gradual construction of what would be the nation’s first synthetic track.
