Olympic Day greetings from TASVG

World Olympic Day is the day set aside by the International Olympic Committee, to celebrate the Olympic idea. In 1947, at the 41st IOC session in Sweden, Czechoslovakian IOC member, Dr. Gruss, brought forth the idea of a day to be used to promoted Olympic values.

On June 23rd, 1948, the first Olympic Day was celebrated. According to the Olympic website, “Over the last 20 years Olympic Day has been associated with Olympic Day Runs all over the world. First launched in 1987, the run was about encouraging all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to celebrate Olympic Day and promoting the practice of mass sport. From 45 participating NOCs in the first edition in 1987, the numbers have grown to more than 100 participating NOCs”.

In our celebration of World Olympic Day, 2020, we have 3 time Olympian Kineke Alexander, describing her experience in representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the Olympic Games.

Team Athletics SVG wishes each and everyone a very happy World Olympic Day.
