New initiatives loom large
It is my privilege to wish all of our TASVG Family, a happy and most prosperous New Year, 2021.
2021 is here and TASVG gets an early start with its first Development scheduled for 9 January at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex. This will be followed by a General Meeting at the same venue.
The new year will feature several new initiatives.
Afternoon Relay Classic
In an effort to make our events financially viable we will reorganise the annual Relay Classic as an afternoon event with entry fees for participants and entrance fees for patrons. We will also have concessions that are revenue-generating.
Efforts will be made to boost participation and attendance. The programme is already in circulation.
Zonal Championships
TASVG will introduce Zonal Championships at two levels – Schools and Community Athletes.
- National Zonal Competitions
– All Leeward – Cumberland
– All Windward – Georgetown
– Central – Arnos Vale
– Grenadines – Bequia
Grand Final at National Stadium
- National Schools Zonal Competitions:
– All Leeward – Cumberland
– All Windward – Georgetown
– Central – Arnos Vale
– Grenadines – Bequia
Grand Final at National Stadium
Points and Ranking System
TASVG will introduce a points system for all of its events, including Development Meets that at once encourages increased participation as well as allows monthly rankings of athletes by categories. This will serve as an important addition to the selection criteria regarding national representative teams.
Continuing Coaches Education
A programme of continuing coaches education will begin immediately, planned by Technical Director, Chester Morgan. The identified coaches must complete all training sessions, theoretical and practical.
Project shoes
TASVG is committed to procuring training and competition spikes for athletes, beginning with primary school children, given that this is a requirement for all users of the national stadium at Diamond. We are in the process of soliciting help in this project from former and current athletes in the Diaspora as well as other agencies. We are already engaged with Messrs Jemi and Jabari Khensu who have so generously started the project. We remain grateful for their initiative.
2021 can only be as successful as we in the TASVG Family make it. We look forward to working together throughout what promises to be another year full of challenges but also replete with opportunities.
