6 named for U18 & U23 Championships

Six athletes have been named to travel to Costa Rica, for the NACAC U18 & U23 Championships, to held from July 9th to 11th, at the National Stadium in the country’s capital, San Jose.

After breaking the National Mens U20 800m for a third time this season alone, Handal Roban will be making the trip to compete in the 800m, in a special Under 20 category. Handal is no stranger to these Cahmpionships, after he won a bronze medal in Mexico, at the 2019 staging of the event.

Slated to run the U23 women’s 400m, is Shafiqua Maloney. She just wrapped up an impressive final college season at the University of Arkansas, where she finished 3rd in the 800m, at both the indoor SEC conference and NCAA national championships, as well as the SEC Outdoor conference. She also set national records in both the indoor and outdoor 800m.

Mikeisha Welcome was in record breaking form this season as well, competing in the Triple Jump for the University of Oklahoma. She broke both the indoor and outdoor national records, and will be making trip as well. Mikeisha is no stranger to the stadium in Costa Rica, as it’s the same venue where she won a bronze medal at the Pan American U20 Games, in 2019.

National male U20 Long Jump record holder, Uroy Ryan will be doing the U18 Long Jump. 

Rounding out the team are Tamara Woodley in the U23 Womens 400m, along with the lone home based athlete, Kyle Lawrence, in the U18 100m.
