It is October and we are into the pre-season component of the athletes’ year. For us here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines we are into the road racing season.
From the Desk of the President
Today, 18 July, the world celebrates the birthday of the late Nelson Mandela, the most renowned lead of the fight against South Africa’s brutish imposition of Apartheid and most beloved President of his native country.
We are now in the month of July. It seems like such a very long time that we have not had the pleasure of engaging in the numerous planned competition and training activities. Happily, we have not been idle. Several of our coaches have been holding sessions with small groups of athletes while adhering to the health protocols. We have also had some Mini Meets at Sion Hill.
Today we learnt of the death of long-time personal friend and great athletics leader and personality, Svein-Arne Hansen. He was 74 years old.
Over the past several weeks the world has had visual evidence of the extent to which racism remains an institutionalized reality in the global community in which we live.
Track and field athletes, coaches and aficionados are all very keen on the fact that before their very eyes a national stadium is being constructed at Diamond. For many, this is the realization of a long-held dream.
