Carifta Games in sight

Team Athletics SVG has released the qualification standards required for representing St. Vincent & the Grenadines at the 2025 Carifta Games, scheduled for April 19-21 in Trinidad & Tobago.

The standards fall, once again, into a 2-tier system of qualification, with an A and B standard.

Attaining the A standard guarantees selection for the team, while attaining the B standard guarantees consideration for team selection. This means that along with making the B qualifying mark, other factors are considered, like consistency of performances, regular attendance at TASVG Development meets, and consultation with the athlete’s coach.

After the official start of the competition season, 3 athletes have already made qualifying standards for the games, on the Easter Weekend.

At the JC Sprint Fest, held at Jamaica College in Kingston Jamaica on Jan. 3rd, J’aivar Cato earned his 3rd Carifta Games call, when he jumped to a 2nd place finish with 14.83m in the U20 Boys Triple Jump. This surpasses the 14.70m A standard. He placed 6th in the event at the Carifta Games last year in Grenada.
At the first Development meet of the season at the Sir Vincent Beache National Stadium on Jan. 4th, Ajay Delpesche won the U20 Boys 200m in an A standard qualifying time of 21.47, going faster than the required 21.80. Delpesche was part of the 5th place 4x100m relay team at last year’s games.
CARIFTA QUALIFIER - TREVEL
A “B” standard was made in the U20 Boys High Jump, at the second development meet on January 11th. Trevel Sylvan cleared a height of 1.95m, but had 2 unsuccessful attempts at 2.00m, then had his time expire on his 3rd attempt.

The next meet on the TASVG Calendar will be the Pamenos Ballantyne Distance/Jumps Classic, on January 18th.
