A Vincentian’s take on Black Lives Matter

A poem about black lives matter

In handcuffs on the ground what the heck
You still had the need to kneel on my neck
I said I can’t breathe in need of air
You continued to press you did not care
You had your back up in this imaginary fight
But to you this black man had no right
This was your duty to do as you will
And now it has led to a public kill
Your cloak of invincibility has now slipped
Nowhere to run you have finally tripped
No police lies can set you free
Not even your mates the other three
Your white skin can no longer help you
Your perceived power is draining too
This fight that you started can no longer be hid
The can of hate you opened the lid
Even wider than it was before
There will be an outcome that’s for sure
Covid 19 has caused us so much strife
You added to it needlessly taking a life
This world of ours is fully on show
Nowhere to hide or be on the down low
The colours of the rainbow that is our plight
And all lives matter not only white
Black is here and here to stay
The original colour before light came our way
