Carifta Trials
The next competitive event on the TASVG Calendar for 2023, will be the Carifta Trials on March 4th and 5th at the Sir Vincent Beache National Stadium. The nation’s top athletes, between 15 and 19, will be on show, as they vie for selection to the region’s premiere athletics championships. Competitions will be held in 2 age groups, Under 17 and Under 20 for males and females.
Last year, SVG enjoyed its best ever performance at the games in Jamaica, bringing home 6 medals. 4 bronze medals came by way of Amal Glasgow in the U20 Boys 400m, Verrol Sam – U20 boys High Jump, Keo Davis – U20 boys 100m and Handal Roban in the U20 boys 800m.
Silver medals were won Davis in the U20 boys 200m, and Uroy Ryan in the U20 Boys Long Jump.
Four athletes have already attained the Carifta qualification standards. They are Uroy Ryan in the U20 boys Triple Jump, Amal Glasgow in the U20 Boys 400, Kyle Lawrence in the U20 Boys 200 and Tyrha Charles in the U17 Girls 200m.
This year’s Carifta Games, the 50th edition, expected to be a gala event, will be held in the Bahamas from April 8th – 10th. Clubs, schools and individual athletes who want to compete at the trials can click here to register. The registration deadline is March 2nd and 12 noon.
