Most qualifiers ever for a World Championship

St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be represented at this year’s World U20 Games, by the largest ever number of qualified athletes at a World Athletics Championship, whether at the Junior or Senior level.

In previous years, there would have been one or two qualifiers, or the country would have benefitted from solidarity places, which are given to nations with no athletes who met the required standard.

2022 has however proved different, as the sport continues to trend upwards in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

A total of 5 athletes have qualified for the games, to be held in Cali, Colombia from August 1-6.

Carifta Games Long Jump Silver medalist Uroy Ryan, along with 400m Bronze medalist Amal Glasgow will make the trip. Along with them will be 2021 NACAC U20 100m bronze medalist Kyle Lawrence. Devonric Mac, who won the sprint double, and set a 200m meet record at the Whitsuntide Games earlier this year, will run the half lap event.

Rounding out the team is the lone female, Leann Nicholas. The USA based Triple Jumper, will be donning the national colours for the first time. The 18 year old, who has Vincentian parents, came to prominence when she won the triple jump at the 2022 Penn Relays.

Kahlil Cato will travel as the team coach.
