Member Federations
Member federations of the Virgin Islands (ISV), the British Virgin Islands (IVB) and St Lucia (LCA) met, one-on-one on Monday 26 October 2020, with NACAC President, Mike Sands, and General Secretary, Keith Joseph, in the leadership’s continuing efforts at facilitating enhanced communications with the organisation’s membership.
Athletes Commission and Shaunae Miller-Uibo
400m Olympic Champion, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, responded positively responded to an invitation to meet with the leadership of the NACAC Athletes Commission. This meeting took place on Wednesday 28 October.
In a very cordial meeting the matter of the concerns raised by Shaunae in her social media post one week earlier, was the main object of the discussions.
Following the meeting, NACAC issued a news release on the meeting.
The NACAC Athletes Commission will make its own release during the coming week.
World Athletics’ Update
World Athletics’ Development Department officially brought member federations up to date on the new elearning platform, labelled, The Education Hub, which will be found on the World Athletics website. This is designed to bolster continuous education of programmes and courses on offer from World Athletics but would also be accessible to all member federations and area associations for their own programmes.
The Development Department also updated member federations on the status of the revamped Kids Athletics programme for children aged 4 – 14 years.
Weekly Meeting
President Mike Sands, convened the weekly meeting with the Competitions Director, Michael Serralta and General Secretary, Keith Joseph, on Wednesday 28 October.
There are two expressions of interest in the hosting of the NACAC Open Championships scheduled for 2022. Official letters of interest have been received from Costa Rica (CRC) and The Bahamas (BAH).
MADC Webinar
The Medical and Anti-Doping Commission (MADC) of NACAC conducted its first in a three-part series of webinars on Friday 30 October 2020. The topic of the webinar was ‘Draft Guidelines for Returning to Training and Competition, Post Lockdown’.

NACAC Leadership/Member Federations
Monday 2 November 2020 will be the turn of the member federations of Dominica (DMA), Antigua and Barbuda (ANT) and The Bahamas (BAH) to meet, one-on-one with NACAC President Mike Sands and General Secretary, Keith Joseph.
Meetings of the NACAC leadership with member federations have been taking place for the past several weeks as part of the President’s commitment to increased communication and collaboration.
Thus far the meetings have served to enlighten all involved in respect of what is being done in the region as well as at the NACAC leadership level.
Identified needs brought to the attention of NACAC’s leadership have been immediately addressed, in an effort to ensure that they receive the requisite attention and resolution.
World Athletics/Area Presidents Meeting
NACAC President, Mike Sands, will, on Tuesday 3 November, be engaged in another of the monthly meetings with the leadership of World Athletics with Area Presidents.
On Thursday, President sands will update his Executive on the critical outcomes of the meeting and will do likewise when he makes his opening presentation at Saturday’s NACAC Information Session #3.
NACAC Executive – 5 Nov
The NACAC Executive will convene on Wednesday 5 November, beginning at 7.00pm Eastern Caribbean Time (6.00pm Miami Time).
The Executive will focus attention on the planned programme schedule for the Area for 2021 and beyond, especially in light of the impact of the pandemic on the original schedule as at the beginning of 2020.
Consideration will also be given to the request from regional sports journalists for greater involvement with the organisation as well as the establishment of a comprehensive policy framework for journalists at our Championships, going forward.
NACAC Info Session #3
On Saturday 7 November, the member federations will convene for the third Information Session at 10.00am Eastern Caribbean Time (8.00am Miami Time).
One of the features of the NACAC Information Sessions is the presentation of updates by the Chairpersons of the respective Commissions and Working Groups. These institutions are critical to the advancement of the work of NACAC and leads to the engagement of persons with the requisite expertise.
NACAC Communications
NACAC is seeking to enhance its communications with member federations and all of its stakeholders, including the all-important media.
Work has already begun on the establishment of a communications policy for the Area Association.
Member federations are being encouraged to send us stories about your activities and athletes to keep our social media platforms active. We are also anxious to receive news items on what is taking place with our member federations, more generally.
