In the wake of the recent World Athletics Congress, President Sebastian Coe’s vision for the future of Athletics Championships has reverberated worldwide. The emphasis on elevating the status of these championships is seen as pivotal for Athletics to retain its premier position within the Summer Olympics.

NACAC Athletics, having consistently dominated the medals table at World Championships and boasting the most points, recognizes the opportunity to raise the bar for its Area Championships. A drive to match the caliber of World Championships is underway, with NACAC aiming to attract its top athletes and yield unparalleled performances.

This commitment extends to fostering growth in various competitions, including the NACAC Athletics Open Championships. Innovative marketing strategies will broaden the reach of these marquee events, ensuring a more significant impact on the global athletics stage.

President Sands has reaffirmed NACAC Athletics’ dedication to inclusivity, encouraging input from all member federations. The organization’s mission is clear: to lead the world successfully in Championships and development initiatives, with a particular focus on facilitating the participation of subregional athletes in regional and international competitions.

CARIFTA Games 2024, scheduled for St. George’s, Grenada, holds the promise of further elevating junior athletics. Discussions between the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and NACAC Athletics underscore the commitment to enhance this thrilling event, known for nurturing elite junior talent and setting world records.

NACAC Athletics’ Coaches’ Corner spotlights mass participation as a key driver of development. With a focus on increasing youth involvement, community outreach, school-based initiatives, youth development clinics, and parental engagement are on the agenda. Identifying and nurturing talent at the grassroots level is another crucial objective, supported by specialized coach training programs.

Across the NACAC region, noteworthy developments are unfolding. El Salvador recently hosted a National Athletics Championship for U13 and U15 athletes, further fostering athletic talent. In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Kelisha Yorke’s participation in a leadership workshop signals a commitment to promoting Sport for All through initiatives like Kids Athletics. The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation has kicked off its annual Cross Country Season, engaging athletes in thrilling races and promoting the sport’s grassroots growth.

NACAC Athletics embraces these ambitious plans to usher in a new era of excellence, inclusivity, and growth in the world of Athletics.
